Stripes and Scallops

I took some pics of my sister, Kim also seen here & here while just hanging out at her house.  I love this outfit because of its simplicity.  I always dig a great blazer and navy is always a classic.  White shorts always look clean and crisp and these cuties have such a fun detail of Scalloped Pockets.  This adorable mini satchel from TopShop adds a fantastic burst of color on the white.  And seriously! who doesn't like a basic striped tee?  I do I do.  In fact I think I may have way too many shirts in stripes, especially blue striped tees.  This necklace is one of my old favorites.  I let Kim borrow it because I am such a great sister haha.  It kinda looks nautical with the brass knots on either side.  It's sad that Martin & Osa is no longer around so I'm not sure where else you can find something similar.  Perhaps my most fave element to this ensemble are the Caroline Villamarin earrings.  They have that cute 50's vibe and are so easy to pair with most outfits.  I am obsessed and got myself about 3 pairs, however they are no longer available on her website :(  I know they are currently being sold at Peper & Parlor in Hoboken, NJ.  If you are ever in town check it out!   Oh and I should mention that ths cute brown woven belt actually has a bow on it.  Kim turned it to the side and hid it under the tee-shirt to keep things simple.
Hope you all had a Fab weekend.

Jen & Kelly's Picks: Black & White 2 Ways

For the Working Girl..........
1. Black cardigan - Dries Van Noten
2. Blouse - Marni
3. Earrings - Rose Pierre
4. Bangle - Adia Kibur
5. Skirt - Moschino Cheap and Chic - 70% off
6. Tote - TopShop
7. Pumps - Steven
8. Lip tint - Colororganics hemp lip tint (wine)

The thing about Black and White is that it's seasonless classic and always in style.  You really can't go wrong pairing these to match made in heaven colors but you can spice it up, down and/or sideways.  I have always loved black and white especially when I am unsure of what to wear or indecisiive about wearing color.  There is something so Elegant about black and white together and I'm sure it will always appear that way to the human eye of even the most lacking of fashionistas.  Kelly and I show you 2 looks here both very different and one with a hint of color. I kept mine simple and classic for the working woman, but fun enough to wear for a night out after work. The lip tint is one of my favorites and adds the perfect amount of color to your lips.  Kelly's outfit is super cute, chic and relaxed with just a pop of yellow.  I think any girl would love to rock this look.  Hope you are inspired by our picks.  Black and White is always a winner!

PB&J Shortbread Ice cream Sammy's

This past Father's Day the hubby and I spent the day with my father-in law.  We went out for an early dinner at the White Dog Cafe.  Dinner was so Delicious but Dessert was Amazing! I decided to be adventurous and try the PB&J shortbread sandwiches.  I wasn't really sure what to expect but I hoped for the best.  I was so pleasantly surprised but I also LOVE pb&j normally.  If you love pb&j then chances are you will enjoy this tasty treat.  As you may have guessed it is very messy to eat but so worth it.  It looked easy enough to make on my own so I gave it my best shot.  The restaurant version definitely used very thin shortbread cookies but I was unable to find any that thin. You could always try to make your own, however I have done that in the past and controlling the thickness of the bread is pretty difficult.  I went with Walker's shortbread highlanders.  For a quick, fun and simple dessert give this recipe a try :)

Ingredients (makes 6)
  • (2) 4.7 ounce boxes of shorbread ( I used Walkers highlanders)
  • 1 pint of PB ice cream. (you can use chocolate PB flavor or plain PB ice cream)
  • 3 tablespoons of your favorite jam, jelly or preserves.  ( I used Wild Blueberry preserves)
Directions
  1. Lay out the bottom layer  of shortbread for each sandwich.
  2. On a cutting board scoop out 6 healthy sized scoops of ice cream.
  3. Add a half tsp of the fruit spread to each scoop and fold the spread into the ice cream. ( I used a brownie cutter to fold)
  4. Once folded scoop the 6 individual scoops of ice cream onto the 6 pieces of shortbread
  5. Add 1 teaspoon of fruit spread to the top of  each scoop of ice cream on the shortbread.
  6. Top each with the 2nd piece of shortbread to complete the sandwich.
* If you would like to have this prepared in advance simply follow directions above and place each sandwich onto a tray covered in wax paper.  Place a second layer of wax paper over the top and place in the freezer for up to 2 hours before serving.

Electric Blue & Orange Flowers

Well it was off to Tudor City again this past weekend.  I spent the day with my friend Rupal whom you have also seen here.  It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood and perfect weather to be outdoors.  We were on our way to an outdoor rooftop party.  Sometimes it's difficult to decide on an outfit when you know it will be hot, but also when the event is outside starting in the day and continuing through the early part of the night.  I Loved Rupal's choice.  Her look is very relaxed yet dressed up just enough for an outdoorsy party. The colors are so vibrant especially with the contrast of the orange necklace and the electric blue skirt.  She is Obsessed with this necklace BTW.  She actually planned the outfit around the necklace haha but I guess it all worked out from the looks of it.  My favorite part of this look is the flowy skirt.  It moves and floats through the air while you walk and adds a whimsical feeling to the outfit. Hope you had a wonderful weekend full of great weather!
